Church STAFF meeting, 4:30 @ Pastor Tom’s TOMMORROW
Your church leadership is considering the expansion of the commons area into the nursery and adding a new nursery and youth rooms beyond that to the east as an extension to the back of our building. Please view the drawings and give us your thoughts.
We are joining with the Linden Hills Family Fellowship, down the highway from us, for an Easter Sunrise service at6:30 am. next Sunday morning. Over the years we've partnered with them at Easter and at other special times, like fifth Sunday singspirations. A breakfast will be served after the service.
CHOIR PRACTICE
AFTER CHURCH WE WILL BE PRACTICING A BEAUTIFUL SONG FOR EASTER.
New Property
We've purchased the property directly across the street of our church. It's 1.62 acres, and in the immediate future it will be used for parking. It's in escrow now, and the contract requirements are met. When escrow closes, we'll have a "brushing party" and clear the land. Keep praying that we hear the Lord's direction as we move ahead.
Easter
Easter is the day of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Although it's not called that in the Bible, Christian tradition has given the day that name because it comes in the spring of the year. So, our pagan ancestors celebrated the spring when light and life returned to the earth. Their imagined god of the spring, Estre, brought things back to life.
We need not be too Puritanical about the name. We know what Easter stands for, even if it's cultural. We need not rip the buttons off of our clothes and wear black, like the Puritans, to be more spiritual. We can celebrate the spring just like our ancestors, and take joy in the trees budding out, the bunnies and chickies being born and hatched. We don't worship them. We worship the One who was dead and then alive again!
"Up from the grave He arose...!" Jesus, our Savior. It was "Easter" morning and when the women came to the tomb, believing Him to be dead, they found the tomb empty. The angel told them, "He is not here, for He has risen just as He said..." (Matt.28.6).
"Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the dead the third day" (Luke 24.46).
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the lunch pin of the Christian faith. It is a fact that crosses the boundary between our practical, worldly understanding and the spiritual reality of God's kingdom. It is the truth embodied in our Savior.
"If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth the confesses, resulting in salvation" (Rom.10.9,10).
Happy Easter.
