Join a Shepherding Group

We have three Shepherding Groups: Pastor Tom's, at church; Roger Brown's, at his home, and Lee Copeland, at the Salvation Army. These groups build relationships, give Bible instruction, and lift up prayer for those in need. Consider joining one of these groups. Thanks.

New Directory

The New Church Directory for 2023 is being printed. PTL! It will soon be available to our NHCF people. Thanks to all who put in their time and effort to get this done, and in particular to Candy Greenwood, Lora Slater, Margaret Brown and Rondi Vinnedge

Valentines Potluck

Valentine's Day is just two weeks away. We're planning on having a Valentine's "banquet" potluck on Sunday, February 12th after church. Sure hope you'll stay and share. This Sunday is also significant because it's Lincoln's birthday and the Superbowl. Don't worry men; the game doesn't start until 4:00 pm.

Letters to Givers of Record

Thanks for giving to your church at NHCF. We have handed out and mailed letters to givers of record. If you have not

received yours please let Pastor Tom know.

Prayer Meeting at International House of Prayer

Thanks to those of you who attended the special, all church, prayer meeting last Sunday afternoon at the International House of Prayer in Lakeside. We prayed for the Christians in China (44 million) and for the conversion of China's leadership. Keep praying. The CCP is the major threat to world peace right now.

Persevere

The American Church is coming into a season of persecution, not so much in violent terms, but more subtle terms. The devil, in his most deceptive means, is nibbling away at our freedom of religion, while lulling us to sleep that it's all okay. This is exactly what happened to Germany when the Nazis took over. So, it can be likened to boiling a frog. Put him in a pot of cold water, turn up the heat, and before he knows it, he's cooked.

An example of this action is the government's 501 (c) 3 tax exempt status. The church has been subtly conditioned to believe that this is necessary, even required. It is not. By registering, a church becomes "an agent of the state." The rule says that the church that complies cannot bring partisan, political direction from the pulpit. It says others things too which should set the local church on high alert. NHCF is not a 501 (c) 3. We have never had a problem. Our peoples' giving has never been questioned.

The Bible tells us that "friendship with the world is hostility toward God" (James 4.4). And, "whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."

Let's not batter over the biblical mandate to "be in subjection to the governing authorities" (Rom.13.5). The forgotten biblical note is to be in subjection to "good authority." Authority that scorns the sanctity of life (abortion), and the sanctity of marriage (homosexual unions), and that controls our freedom of religion, is not good.

Nevertheless, Paul encourages us to "persevere." He writes that perseverance leads to hope (Rom.5.3-5). He wrote this to the Roman church, who were under serious persecution. This perseverance, however, does not mean that we tolerate immoral governmental rule over our church. We believers have a moral obligation to "stand firm in the Lord" (Ephes.6.14). We are to "be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints" (6.18).
