The Building Fund

Thanks for giving to our building fund. The thermometer is going up! Take a look inside the addition. The walls are framed up for the specific locations of bathrooms, classroom, utility, and sprinkler riser room, plus storage.

Next: moving the electrical panel and propane service. Keep praying!

Adding the Word to Our Addition

Our church body is invited to go out into the new addition through the kitchen door and take up a marker and write a Scripture on the inside wall. Your choice…
"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable to teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness"
(12 Tim.3.16).

The Truth Rally

The Truth Rally was held and decisions were made. Our church served as the worship team on Tuesday and Thursday.
Thanks team!

In Memoriam for Jan Hansen

Jan and her late husband, John, were members of our church early on. Jan was our church treasurer for some time, and she was a strong supporter. She was laid to rest in the Show Low Cemetery.

Surprise!

I don't like surprises. Well, you might say, "But, some surprises are good, like when they remember your birthday with a party, or, when you're remembered in a will, or, when you win a contest. Yes, I suppose, but on the whole, surprises are an annoyance, since they shift our lives into things we wouldn't have done otherwise.

Well, the Bible speaks about "surprises" from the point of view of "tribulations." Paul writes to the Roman church: "...we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance, and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope..." (Rom.5.3,4).

Okay. I get that. But we have a hard time putting a positive spin on negative surprises, like "you've got a dread disease."

Then there's James' comment: "Count it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance" (James 1.2,3).

It's kind of like Mark Twain said, when the people of Hannibal, MO, wanted to run him out of town on a rail: "If it wasn't for the honor of the thing, I'd just as soon skip it."

Yes, we've learned to endure. It would be nice if we could do it without surprises.

The more we have, and the older we get, the more the contingencies of life crowd in upon us. Maybe, we shouldn't be surprised when our car, with 150,000 miles on it, quits, or when the water heater fails, or when our muscular-skeletal system hurts all the time in old age. It's just par for the course.

Yet, I can't help but wonder if all these surprises arise out of the fact that original sin still plagues our human species. What'd you think?
