The new church addition is going up. PTL! And, as it goes up so do the costs of construction. You may have noticed the "Giving Thermome-ter" in our entryway. Thanks so much for all that you've given to this point. We as a church are grateful. Now, each of us need to prayerfully consider raising the thermometer with our contributions. God Bless.
Our church body is invited to go out into the new addition through the kitchen door and take up a marker and write a Scripture on the inside wall. Your choice…
"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable to teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness"
(12 Tim.3.16).
"The Truth Rally” will be held at the Jesus sign from July 9-16. During the July 4th parades to be held in Show Low and Springerville, the Truth Rally is inviting church members to either drive with or walk with them. If you are interested in walking/driving in either location, please contact Dana Crow Smith at (480)273-0204, or danacrowsmith@aol.com to let her know. Thank you for your support of this revival!"
Our Shepherding Groups meet on Wednesday evenings. There are three: Lee Copeland's Group, meeting in his home in Borden Ranch; Pastor Tom's Group, meeting in our church, and Roger Brown's Group, meeting in his home. Contact these leaders for time and place location (Lee: 480-518-1178; Pastor Tom: 928-243-1864, and Roger: 520-241-9289.
I went to Safeway at 8:30 am and there was no place to park, and the highway traffic was insane with long lines of cars choking the lanes between traffic signals. It's the same in the stores, the banks, and area businesses...hurry up and wait. It's pretty frustrating, and I do wonder what a proper Christian attitude should be towards the crowd.
The word "crowd" has a more vulgar meaning than "a great multitude" which the American text favors. Nevertheless, the Greek word "ochlos" carries the sense of "tumult, disturbance and trouble." Those people coming to Jesus were not passive, content and well-meaning. They wanted something, and for this reason the biblical text tells us a number of times that Jesus escaped the crowds (Matt.8.18; 14.22; 15.39; Mark 4.36; 6.45).
It's comforting in a sense that Jesus was annoyed by the crowd, but then again, He came to "give Himself a ransom for many (the crowd)(Matt.20.28)." We believers have the same approach-avoidance feelings about the crowd as Jesus, except our Lord overcame His human feelings in obedience to the Father. Can we do the same?
I suppose, but it's a tough assignment.
There's something about God's economy that naturally evolves the crowd. You've got crowds (flocks) of birds, and crowds (schools) of fish, and crowds (herds) of hooved animals, and, of course, crowds (folds) of sheep. Why? Because God ordained the socialization of species for the common good.
Love for one another does not take place outside of the crowd. Remember: In the NT church "all those who had believed were together (in a crowd), and had all things in common" (Acts 2.44).
Persevere believer. We can continue and function in the "madding crowd" because the Holy Spirit inspires, guides and protects us (John 14.16-18).
