Thanks for giving to our building fund. The thermometer is going up! Take a look inside the addition. The walls are framed up for the specific locations of bathrooms, classroom, utility, and sprinkler riser room, plus storage.
Next: moving the electrical panel and propane service. Keep praying!
After four years of delays God has answered our prayers. This was not just another event among many. It celebrates the God-given vision that moved many to act on behalf of the homeless. Not a week goes by that Pastor Tom doesn't have a couple of calls from clients who are homeless. These people are those who've had personal crises, like job loss. They are capable of recovery, but they need help in the short run.
They have already had people graduate from this program which means SUCCESS! THEY ARE OFF THE STREETS AND HAVE JOBS!!!
We have a dozen NHCF people trained to visit in the Navajo County Jail. PTL! Our church is scheduled to visit on Tuesday after-noons and on Saturday mornings. If you are interested in this minis-try, speak with Pastors Jim or Tom. Remember:
Jesus told us to "visit the prisoner" (Matt.25.36).
Next Sunday, August 6th, we'll have an after church potluck to celebrate the addition progress, the summer, and God's great blessings to us over these 31 years of life as a local church. Leizel Yaddow is in charge. Please contact her to know what to bring (619-438-5769).
Our Shepherding Groups meet on Wednesday evenings. There are three: Lee Copeland's Group, meeting in his home in Borden Ranch; Pastor Tom's Group, meeting in our church, and Roger Brown's Group, meeting in his home. Contact these leaders for time and place location
(Lee: 480-518-1178; Pastor Tom: 928-243-1864, and Roger: 520-241-9289.
I'm fighting the grasshoppers in our vegetable garden. I suppose I could take the easy route and just poison them. Instead, I'm...and don't laugh...I'm catching them with an aquarium net and feeding them to my chickens.
Well, you might say, "Let the chickens out to attack them in the garden." Yes, but unfortunately, the chickens also attack my garden.
It's kind of time consuming, and it's an annoyance, but it fits in with the rhythm of life. You know: the natural, biological hierarchy of living things feeding on one another. That's the reason there are more grasshoppers than chickens, or more deer than mountain lions.
So, God created everything in its time and place (Eccles.3.11).
It's kind of crazy. Those grasshoppers have just as much life in them as I have in me. And, even though they are much, much smaller than me, they have all the mobility that I do...and they can also jump great distances and fly. Performance wise, that makes them better than me.
Jesus reminded us of God's great care for life, saying, "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them..." (Matt.6.26). And then, Jesus adds: "Are you not worth much more than they" (6.26c)?
Jesus also said, "Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing" (Matt.6.25c).
So, I know that I'm worth more than those plant munching grasshoppers, but the same life that's in them is in me. "God gives life to all things..." (Acts 17.25; 1 Tim. 6.12). It's the sweet mystery of life that causes me to hesitate in taking life, even if it's a grasshopper.
Well, I'm not a pacifist. I still eat meat, and I take my place in the earth's food chain, howbeit (how-be-it), at the top. Yet, in my war on the grasshoppers, I cannot help but wonder: "What is God's divine intention in giving us life?"

The great pleasure of a dog is that you can make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you, but will make a fool of himself too.
