The new church addition is going up. PTL! And, as it goes up so do the costs of construction. You may have noticed the "Giving Thermometer" in our entryway. Thanks so much for all that you've given to this point. We as a church are grateful. Now, each of us need to prayerfully consider raising the thermometer with our contributions. God Bless.
Our church body is invited to go out into the new addition through the kitchen door and take up a marker and write a Scripture on the inside wall. Your choice…
"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable to teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness"
(12 Tim.3.16).
"The Truth Rally” will be held at the Jesus sign from July 9-16. During the July 4th parades to be held in Show Low and Springerville, the Truth Rally is inviting church members to either drive with or walk with them. If you are interested in walking/driving in either location, please contact Dana Crow Smith at (480)273-0204, or danacrowsmith@aol.com to let her know. Thank you for your
support of this revival!"
God has provided us with a new cross on our chapel chancellery wall. The light and color remind us that God is light, and that He is the Promise Keeper, May God's grace and His favor abide in our church and on the hands that have prepared this gift.
Del Lewis is presenting for The Gideons International today. We are happy to support their local work. They are active in providing bibles for students, first responders, military personnel and many other groups, besides motels. Your prayers and donations are appreciated as they get the Word out into the world.
I remember when the phrase "stop bugging me" became popular as I was growing up in So. Cal. It was only natural since insect pests, like mosquitos, really do "bug us." When people annoy us, it's like those little insect monsters that make us reach for the "Off" spray.
Well, setting aside the metaphor that applies to people, there really are insect pests that need to be eradicated. I know. I'm fighting them in my vegetable garden right now.
I really wonder why God created so many insect species. I guess that there are well up into the millions, and some entomologists suggest that if we had a complete survey, it could reach 30 million. I read that most of the undiscovered species are in the Amazon basin or the Congo.
Then, you can add spiders to that total...and my, my, I don't even want to think about it.
Jesus didn't give us much instruction in handling insect pests. He did say that "In the world, you have tribulation, but rejoice; I have overcome the world" (John 16.33). I suppose that tribulation could include swarms of locusts and mosquitos. The only time Jesus mentions an insect is when he charges the Pharisees, saying "You blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel" (Matt. 23.14).
The OT has much more to say about insects. Leviticus takes note that "All the winged insects that walk on all fours are detestable to you" (Lev.11.29). But that didn't include the locust, which John the Baptist ate. And then, Solomon gives high praise to the ant (Prov.6.6).
So, now I'm farming the internet to discover some DIY, non-poisonous, natural insecticide to deal with them. My latest formula is one cup white vinegar, 4 cups of water, and one tablespoon of plant-sourced soap. We’ll see.
In the meantime, I'm still puzzled over the necessity for insects, but that's in God's providence. After all, He created all things good (Gen.1.4,10,12,18, etc.).
