BOARD MEETING, TOMORROW, @ 3:30 @ the church
The new church addition is going up. PTL! And, as it goes up so do the costs of construction. You may have noticed the "Giving Thermometer" in our entryway. Thanks so much for all that you've given to this point. We as a church are grateful. Now, each of us need to prayerfully consider raising the thermometer with our contributions. God Bless.
Our church body is invited to go out into the new addition through the kitchen door and take up a marker and write a Scripture on the inside wall. Your choice… "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable to teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness"
(12 Tim.3.16).
Is looking for volunteers! There is a kick-off meeting on Saturday, June 10th at 1 pm at the Vernon Mission. Volunteers can find out information and sign up for the area that fits their gifts. This year, for the first time, a kid’s rally will be held alongside the adult rally with a vacation bible school format. It will be a great event for children! There are business cards on the table by the entry. Please take a few and hand them out as you do business around town.
Yes Sir…...It’s MOVIE NIGHT on Friday, June the 9th at 6:00. Hey, if you go to bed early…..you’ll be home by 7:45. This one is called “RING THE BELL.” Please join us!
Our Women's Bible Study meets on Thursday mornings at 10:00. Ellie Flores will begin and a new study on "Discerning the Voice of God." And, How to Recognize when God Speaks by Priscilla Shirer. You may find also, a tasty morsel or two to tempt your taste buds.
Satan is alive and well. He is not all-powerful, but he is extremely powerful.
Peter wrote, “Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your
adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter
5:8).
The pagan worship at Corinth was not innocent. Behind the idols, themselves
without power, was the demonic. That is why Paul says, “I do not want you to
be partners with demons.” That is why he says you and I cannot drink the cup
of the Lord and the cup of demons. That is why he says that God is jealous,
because He is in a gargantuan struggle with Satan. The victory is already
God’s, but God knows Satan is winning many a skirmish. God wants to protect
you and me from that which looks so innocent, so acceptable, so fun. God
knows that the wages of sin is death. It is not because he wants to crush us.
He knows the inevitable consequences. A loaded revolver in and of itself is
innocent. In the right hands, it can protect society. In the hands of a playful
child, it has devastating potential.
We have become so sophisticated in twenty-first-century America that we
neglect to take seriously the biblical teaching about the demonic. Some of
you daily read your horoscope. Some of you take seriously characteristics that
you are told are yours because you were born in a certain month under a
certain Zodiac sign. Some of you have tried to communicate with departed
persons. Some are even caught up in automatic handwriting and messages
from the other world. I’ve had friends who have become obsessed with such
activities. The demonic is real.
Never forget those words of the apostle Paul who wrote, “Therefore God
gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their
bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a
lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is
blessed forever! Amen”
(Romans 1:24-25).
