The Christian Community Outreach (CCO) is an independent, helping organization founded in 2010 by Pastor David Sherman (Salvation Army), Pastor Rod Marshall (WHCC) and Pastor Tom Brown (NHCF) to meet the critical needs of people in short-term crises: eviction, utility turn-offs, home and vehicle failures, medical needs, and odd contingencies not helped otherwise. We need board members, interviewers, representatives and fund raisers.
Our Easter Choir is practicing after church worship each Sunday now until Easter. Please consider joining them. Giving your voice to song is one way of serving the Lord, who "dwells in the praises of His people."
Easter is two weeks away on April 9th. Hope that you've been adding good things to your lives during Lent, like more prayer and Bible study. We'll celebrate our Lord's resurrection at 6:30 am in a sunrise service. Then we'll have breakfast afterwards and morning worship at 10:30 am. No Sunday School. Plan now to join with us.
As we get the new addition up, your donations to our "Building Fund" are appreciated. It will provide a much needed large meeting room and the additional space for program expansion. Thanks.
Murmuring is the human tendency to complain about the status of things, which annoy one, in whispered tones. The people Israel "murmured" against Moses and Aaron because they were unhappy in their wilderness state (Num. 14.2-4). Moses and Aaron went to the LORD in prayer and charged the people to "not rebel against the LORD, and not to fear..." (14.9).
The people blamed Moses and Aaron, who had bravely led them out of Egypt from oppression and slavery, for their present distress. They were going to stone them and appoint new leadership to take them back to Egypt (14.4,10).
Interestingly enough, this human tendency continues today, and even in the church.
Murmuring does three things: 1) it does damage to our faith; 2) it breaks down relationships, and 3) it despises the Word of God. The Bible names murmuring as a sin (Nub.14.18). Paul writes to the Philippians: "Do all things without murmuring or disputing that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation..." (Phil.2.14,15). A "perverse generation" is one that murmurs against God's known Word and God's appointed leadership.
Murmuring is tinted with pride, and like all sin, it's against God. The Bible says: "Obey your leaders, and submit to them; for they keep watch over your souls, as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you (Heb.13.17).
If a leader or a teaching is unbiblical, then there certainly needs to be a reckoning, but, if the murmuring arises out of personal annoyance or preference, as with Moses, then the parties involved need to honor God's Word.
