We will be having a time of baptism in our morning service on Sunday, April 11th. If you have not been baptized this is a golden opportunity. Jesus gave us the example and the commandment to be baptized as believers (Matt.13-17; 28.19). This act of obedience is necessary for our spiritual growth, our initiation into the body of Christ, and for our identity as Christians. Please contact Pastors Tom or Jim with your decision.
The new road entry and culvert are in, and the lot trees are removed. Matt Greenwood is preparing and
leveling the space for a cinder underlayment. Additional work is being done to protect our church sign and secure the drop-off between the levels. A stairway will be added from the lower level to the upper level. Your prayers and input are appreciated. As our congregation grows with summer visitors coming back, we need the extra parking.
NHCF has three Shepherding Groups that meet on Wednesday evenings: one in our church with Pastor Tom and Terry Lowry, one at Roger Brown's house, and one at Chris Lewis' house. We pray and study God's Word, but just as important, we have fellowship together where we build relationships and learn to "bear one another's burdens."
Palm Sunday
Today we remember and celebrate our Savior' s entry into the holy city, Jerusalem. "Behold, your king is coming to you...humble, and mounted on a donkey...." (Zech.9.9; Matt. 21.5). And, they laid tree branches before Him, crying out, "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD..." (Matt.
"Hosanna" means "save us." The people Israel wanted to be saved from the Roman occupation. They anticipated a Savior King who was prophesied to come and deliver them by the sword, but they missed the most important salvation, and that is not from earthly oppression, but from the power and penalty of sin.
We continue to make the same mistake today. Our population wants to be saved from worldly enemies and threats, when all along it's sin that oppresses us.
After a week of hearing Jesus and not seeing Him rise up and take on the Romans, the people became hostile and bitter. They cried out at the judgment hall, "Crucify Him...let His blood be on us and on our children" (Matt.27.22 24). So they and we pronounce a prophecy on ourselves.
Thanks be to God, who has covered us with the blood of Christ..."the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (John 1.29)!
