Preparedness Handbook

A "Preparedness Handbook" is available at the back of our chapel for those who are interested. Given the current events that are troubling our nation, we recommend that each of us do some storage of food and necessities. Preparing for emergencies is a good idea generally, and in light of long-term shortages, we're wise to stock up now.

Praying About NHCF Growth

If you haven't noticed...we're growing. This means that we need a vision for the future. We've already expanded our parking lot, and we're in the process of modifying our building space as the need arises. Plans tentatively exist for a new chapel, and we could be going to two worship services in the near future. All of these things weigh upon our leadership because we don't want to miss God. Please pray with us.

Shepherding Groups Together

Our NHCF Shepherding Groups will meet together at our church on Wednesday, June 2nd at 6:00 pm. We will have a potluck and communion. We'll be sharing our group experiences and having a common Bible study.

Pentecost

Today is Pentecost Sunday. It's celebrated 50 days after our Lord's resurrection. On this day, we remember the giving of the Holy Spirit to the church (Acts 2.1 13). It's the fulfillment of Jesus' promise to "ask the Father to give us

another Helper, that He may be with us forever..." (John 14.16). Jesus promised to "not leave us as orphans," but to come to us in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately, the Holy Spirit is the stepchild of our faith. He doesn't quite fit in, and so, we give more attention to the Father and the Son; however, being Spirit filled is key to our survival as believers on this planet.

The evangelist tells us "to walk by the Spirit" (Gal. 5.16a). Why? Because in so doing we will "not carry out the desire of the flesh" (5.16b). We will not be "immoral, impure, sensual, idolalotrists, sorceress, spiteful, jealous, angry, contentious, envious, drunk and carousing" (5.19 21).

"Walking in the Spirit" is more than just good behavior; it's being fully immersed in the life of the Spirit, and so, doing the will of God.

At Pentecost the Jews celebrated "The Feast of First Fruits" (harvest), and the Jewish followers of the Way were there sharing in the feast. Little did they know that they'd soon be celebrating the birthday of Christ's church. For the church takes on personhood as "the body of Christ" (Col.1.18). Therefore, "we are one in the Spirit; we are one in the Lord" ("They'll Know We Are Christians by Our Love").
