STAFF MEETING, TOMORROW, 4:30, at Pastor Toms!!!!
Each year the Living Hope Women's Centers has a fund raising drive between Mother's and Father's Days. They are one of our designated missions. Take a baby bottle and fill it with loose change. Return it to our church, and we'll deliver them. Thxs.
Navajo County Board of Supervisors granted WMCAH a $100K grant from government funds designed to assist in combating homelessness. We can praise the Lord! He is answering our prayers as we forge ahead to get the transitional housing site built.
THURSDAY NIGHT, MAY 5TH AT BLUE RIDGE CHRISTIAN CENTER, CHURCHES ON THE MOUNTAIN JOINED TOGETHER IN THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER TO PRAY FOR OUR NATION. WE PRAYED FOR OUR FAMILIES, FOR OUR SCHOOLS AND EDUCATORS, FOR OUR BUSINESSES, OUR CHURCHES...ETC. WE ALSO PRAYED FOR "REVIVAL." KEEP THE PRAYERS GOING UP, CHURCH.
We're tentatively going to brush and prep the added new church property across the street on Friday and Saturday, May 20th and 21st. We'll need chainsaws and willing operators and volunteers to move and pile brush.
Mom
A current TV commercial advertises "a place for Mom." It's talking about a nursing home, which for most of us is an offense. It's not that we reject the idea of being cared for in our old age, but that we don't want to be put in "a place." We want to stay in our homes and pass away there.
This is especially offensive when we hear about "putting Mom" away. For most of us our mothers have been loved, and we want to keep "her" with us. Yet, as the years advance and health issues multiply it's not always easy to care for "Mom."
Jesus gave the care of His mother over to His disciple, John. Jesus said, "Woman, behold your son,"...and to John, "Behold you mother" (John 19.26,27). I've wondered about Jesus' half brothers and sisters; shouldn't they have taken care of Mary? But, that's often the sad truth that siblings love Mom and want to visit her, but they don't want to care for her.
To complicate matters, Jesus said, "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me..." (Matt.10.37). Jesus was talking about discipleship, and a disciple needs to love the Lord first, but where does that leave Mom?
Mother's Day honors our Moms as does Proverbs 31 honors "the excellent wife," who does all kinds of good things for us, but Mom's day really only comes when she needs us.
How ready are we to respond to Mom's call? Some of us have already gone through that phase of life with varying degrees of success. For others, it is yet to come, but regardless of where you are please remember to "Honor your father and mother which is the first commandment with a promise" (Ephes. 6.2).
