We're adding a storage shed behind our church building. Please consider being part of the “sorting/organizing committee” that will move existing church items, decorations and other brick-a-brack to the new unit. There’s a clip board sign-up. See Lora or Suzanne to sign-up.
Today we honor our mothers with a Bible book- mark and a long-stem carnation. Please get your flower from the bucket in the commons. These gifts are a small token of our appreciation of our women at NHCF. Thanks for all that you do to bless our church.
If you haven't noticed...we're growing. This means that we need a vision for the future. We've already expanded our parking lot, and we're in the process of modifying our building space as the need arises. Plans tentatively exist for a new chapel, and we could be going to two worship services in the near future. All of these things weigh upon our leadership because we don't want to miss God. Please pray with us.
One thing we all have in common is a mother. She is a given, and although we all did not necessarily get along with our mothers, we've at least had to admit to her influence in our lives. Th at influence is first genetic, then experiential and finally, it's emotional and psychological.
The statement, which is now often an offense, that: "You're just like your mother," deserves more scrutiny. It's good for both males and females. Truly, "the hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world."
So, what have you received from your mother, both good and bad? Think about it. It's an opportunity to identify and work out some of you r problems in life.
The Bible places a high value on mothers and motherhood. We think immediately of Jesus's mother, Mary. She is "the mother of God." What a distinction, but no less so than others, like Hannah, Samuel's mother. Even as God answered her prayer for a son, so she prayed: "My heart exults in the LORD..." (1 Sam.2.1). How blessed and godly is a woman who fears (gives reverence to) God.
My mother still lives in my memories and in my heart. She taught m e to know God; she taught me to pray; she comforted me in times of trouble, and she gave me life lessons by her example. Perhaps your mother did the same.
I t is God's magnificent plan that there should be male and female and that a man should leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife and the two should become one flesh (Gen.2.24). It's God's plan that there should be children from this union and that the children should be nurtured by their mothers and instructed by their fathers.
Thanks
Pastor Tom
