WELCOME HOME PASTOR JIM AND TAMI; GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR NEW KNOWLEDGE OF THE MISSION!
There will be a memorial service for Tom Geffert at the National Memorial Cemetery on Cave Creek Road., in the valley, on October 8th at 9:30 am. Jeany and the family have our prayers and
deepest sympathy.
Save Sunday afternoon, October 10th, for our annual Green’s Peak Trip to view the fall colors and share in a barbecue pot-luck.
WE’LL HAVE A FIRE DRILL TODAY AT THE CLOSE OF CHURCH. THERE ARE GATEKEEPERS AROUND THE CHURCH WHO WILL HELP YOU LEAVE OUR CHAPEL THROUGH THE EXITS ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE BUILDING. IN A REAL FIRE, WE NEED TO GATHER IN THE LOWER PARKING LOT, CLEAR OF ARRIVING FIRE ENGINES.
Please consider lending your help to the Salvation Army. They need “Advisory Board” members, who meet once a month and guide the Army’s community work and fund rais-ing events. Also, needed are site workers, who organize and manage food and clothing resources. Thank you.
Harvest time is something that you do not hear much about in city and suburban churches. Yet, here in the White Mountains, there are lots of garden plots, and there is a harvest going on right now. We should be grateful.
In most cultures across the world, harvest time brings special celebrations. As it was as our Pilgrim forefathers, sitting down for their first “Thanksgiving” meal, so it is with us who have planted, watered, weeded and now pick the fruit of our labor. We’re celebrating.
I harvested my potatoes last week. I planted them on Good Friday, and they were ready by Labor Day. You can depend on the timing. Not that I got several bushels of spuds, but the wheelbarrow full was enough to rejoice over.
I have equal joy over the many squash harvested, and the abundant string beans, and the turnips, carrots, Swiss chard and bumper tomato crop. Some have less enthusiasm over vegetables, but how can one stand in Safeways’ fruit and vegetable section...or in my garden...without being thankful for God’s abundant harvest?
Our nation was far more religious when we were and agrarian population. When you farm, or garden, you depend upon God, who governs the sun, the soil, the rain and, yes, even the thistle (weed).
My bible says: “Shout joyfully to the LORD, and all the earth…Give thanks to Him; bless His name. For the LORD is good; His lovingkind-ness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations”...and in all seasons (Psalms 100).
