Labor
There's labor and there's honest labor. The difference? One is drudgery work that one hates, and the other is work done with moral integrity. Honest labor views work as a privilege and something to rejoice in with thanksgiving.
Unfortunately, the current generation sees work as a punishment. So, they prefer not to work.
What happened? Why has work become a pariah now? Well, any believing Christian knows why. Our culture has taken God out of the equation, and that follows for every other human effort that's failing at the moment.
The Bible says, "Whatever you do in word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father" (Col.3.17). This is the gold standard for human behavior, but the godless, pagan culture doesn't get it. They especially don't get "giving thanks."
In a conversation with a city road foreman recently he told me that he can't get workers, and if he does get an interested person, they want high pay or no deal. That's why we have people flipping hamburgers for $14 an hour.
I'm not just being critical here; I'm being seriously concerned. We've got a "thankless" and "ungrateful" culture right now, who don't want to work, but are more than willing to live off of others' labor, and the present government is not helping the situation.
The Bible also says, "In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thess.5.18). The believer understands that being in Christ means that we have "the mind (attitude) of Christ." "Who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God...so that you may not grow weary and lose heart" (Heb.12.2,3).
Honest labor is a privilege. It's a privilege as God's in it with us that we may "prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect" (Rom.12.2).
